Raising the Bar: Our New Standard for Your Memories

Hi everyone, Grahame here from the Have it Framed team!

We’ve got some exciting news to share from the workshop. As a family-run shop, we’re always looking for ways to treat your artwork with the same care we’d give our own family photos. That’s why we’ve made a big decision: we are moving to Artglass™ UV 99 as our new "standard" picture framing glass.

A Phased Introduction

We aren't just throwing away our current stock of standard 2mm float glass—that wouldn't be very "Edinburgh" of us! Instead, we are phasing this in as our current glass supplies dwindle. If you’ve got a project coming up, you’ll likely be among the first to benefit from this upgrade as it becomes our default choice.

Why Artglass UV 99?

I often get asked, "Grahame, why change what’s already working?" Think of standard glass like a thin, single-pane window in an old tenement flat. It keeps the rain out, but it doesn't do much for the draughts or the damp. Standard glass is much the same—it stops the dust, but it lets in the silent, invisible threats.

Here is why we’re making the switch:

  • Maximum "Sunblock" for Art: Standard glass offers almost no protection against UV rays. Artglass UV 99 blocks 99% of harmful UV light, helping to prevent your photos from yellowing and your paper from becoming brittle.

  • Crisp Clarity: Unlike some older UV-blocking glasses that had a "fuzzy" or yellowish look, this glass offers crisp image resolution with no "orange peel" surface distortion.

  • Built to Last: When kept in "Normal Conditions" (out of direct sunlight, between 10-25°C), this glass meets the highest standards for protecting your work for decades.

A Note on Reflections

It’s important to note that Artglass UV 99 looks like regular glass in terms of reflections—it still has that classic glass shine. If you are looking for that "invisible" look where the glass seems to disappear entirely, we still offer Artglass AR 99. It has the same 99% UV protection but adds an anti-reflective coating for the ultimate viewing experience.

Let’s Chat Over a Consultation

At the end of the day, we’re craftspeople who want to make sure your memories stay as vibrant as the day they were made. Whether it’s a family heirloom, a "curly" Giclée print that needs flattening, or even a set of military medals, we’ll take the time to treat you like a human and give you the right advice for your piece.

Ready to see the difference for yourself?

Book a full consultation appointment with us here and let's make sure your favourite pieces are framed to last!

Cheers,

Grahame
