Hello everyone! Grahame here from the Have it Framed workshop in Edinburgh.
If you’ve spent any time in our shop, you know we’re big believers that the job doesn’t end when we hand over your beautiful new frame. The real magic happens when that piece finally makes it onto your wall.
However, I know that "hanging day" can be a bit stressful—especially if you live in one of our many local homes with plasterboard walls. We’ve all been there: fumbling with plastic wall plugs, worrying about hitting a stud, or—worst of all—hearing that dreaded crunch as a heavy mirror pulls a chunk of the wall out.
That’s why I’m genuinely excited to tell you about a bit of kit we’ve just brought into the store: 3M™ CLAW Plasterboard Hooks.
Why these are a game-changer
Most plasterboard fixings require a drill and a fair bit of patience. The 3Mâ„¢ CLAW is different. These are heavy-duty hangers designed to "cllaw" directly into the plasterboard using nothing more than your thumbs. No drills, no dust, and no hunting for studs.
We’ve started stocking them in handy packs of two, and they come in four "strengths" depending on what you’re hanging:
Up to 7kg:Â Perfect for medium-sized frames or gallery wall pieces.
Up to 11kg:Â Great for larger framed prints or substantial canvases.
Up to 20kg: This is where it gets serious—ideal for heavy solid wood frames.
Up to 30kg: The "Big Guns." If you’ve got a massive statement mirror or a huge piece of glazed art, this is the one for you.
Hand-Picked for Quality
As a family-run business, we don’t just stock things for the sake of it. We only recommend tools that we’d trust in our own homes. These hooks are engineered from hardened steel, and the way they distribute weight means you get a rock-solid hold without the usual DIY headache.
Not sure which one you need?
One of the best parts of our job is the chat. We prefer treating you like a human being rather than just another order number, so if you aren’t sure how heavy your frame is or which hook is right for your specific wall, just ask!
If you’ve got a project in mind—or a piece sitting on the floor waiting for a home—why not bring it in? We can talk through the best framing options and make sure you leave with the right hardware to get it up safely.
Ready to get that art off the floor and onto the wall?
Pop into the shop to grab a pack (or three!), or better yet, book an appointment for a full consultation. We’ll help you pick the perfect frame and the perfect hook to hang it.
See you in the shop soon!
